The Violin!



What is a Violin?

The Violin is a string instrument. It is placed under the chin and on the shoulder and is played with a bow. The Violin is an instrument of the orchestra.

How are Violins played?

Violins are placed under the chin and on the shoulder (as shown above). They are played using a bow which is drawn across the strings (arco). Sometimes the strings are plucked (pizzicato).

Violins bodies are usually made from wood and the strings are usually made from steel.

How do you change the pitch of a Violin?

To change the pitch of a Violin. one must draw the bow on the preferred steel string.

What are they commonly mistaken for?
