1. What is a patchwork quilt?
A Patchwork quilt is a quilt made from pieces of fabric sewn together. The fabric usually has a design and tells a story.
2. How can a Patchwork quilt show where we are from and who we are?
The details and designs can tell a personal story and this can show where we are from and who we are. They also bring out your artistic side.
3. Can a Patchwork quilt be considered art? How? Yes, there are many details and designs embroidered into the quilt that can be considered art.
4. How does Matisse create collage works using scissors and paper? First, he would paint pieces of paper with gouache, a water-based, opaque, quick-drying, matte paint or he would ask his assistants to do this for him.
He would then cut out shapes from the paper using only his scissors.
He then used pins, thumb tacks and thin nails to secure the shapes to a board. His studio assistants would nail them to the wall following Matisse's instructions.
Now the cut forms were adhered to the paper with small dabs of glue, this was called Spot Glueing.
5. How have you used Matisse's cut out style to influence and inspire your art work? I have used Matisse's no pencil technique and also used bold colours. I chose different shades of some colours to give my art work depth and shading. i then arranged it like Matisse, when I was happy, I glued my shapes on.
6. Reflection on my art work. I am extremely pleased with how my art work turned out. I could make a larger variety of shapes but I am very pleased with how my shapes turned out. I shouldn't of wrote on my work as it doesn't look pleasing, but that is a lesson to learn. I also developed my cutting skills and I feel I have become more creative with the use of shapes.
I learned how to use Acrylic Gloss Medium (AGM) to transfer my printed image onto fabric.
Great work Jasmine! Please add images of your work -the original story/sketch, matisse cut-out and your patchwork to demonstrate your progress. Well done so far! :)
